Apply for Assistance

To support uniformed and non-uniformed employees, Laguna Beach Police & Community Foundation
has established the LBPCF Assistance Fund.

This fund offers five types of financial assistance to LBPD uniformed and non-uniformed employees:

Emergency Assistance

Money will be set aside and regularly increased to create a restricted fund for the purpose of aiding a LBPD employee and family in the unfortunate case of a line-of-duty death or serious injury, as well as a non-line-of-duty death or serious illness, which will also be available for immediate family members. As the fund increases, specific amounts will be established for items such as (i) funeral expenses, (ii) uncovered medical bills, hospice, etc.

Educational Assistance

The Foundation will establish a fund dedicated to providing higher-education scholarships to PD employees’ immediate family members. Applicants will be required to submit a formal application which will be reviewed by the Executive Committee (or separate special-purpose committee), and if recommended by the committee, presented to the Foundation’s Board for approval. These scholarships will be funded over a four-year period subject to the student meeting and maintaining certain criteria such as a minimum grade point average, volunteer service, etc.

The Officer Jon Coutchie Scholarship will continue to be awarded each year to a LB High School graduating senior who will be pursuing an advanced degree in some aspect of law enforcement.

Enrichment Assistance

The Foundation will provide financial assistance to help family members of LBPD employees fund the costs associated with enrichment / extracurricular activities, such as after-school youth programs, field trips, service learning projects, hands-on projects, and problem-solving exercises.

Wellness Assistance

The Foundation will financially support the physical, mental, and financial wellness of PD employees. This will include assisting in the acquisition of equipment (i.e. gym equipment), and funding programs that focus on other important elements of wellness such as mental wellness (meditation, yoga), health (nutrition), financial literacy, (saving for college expenses, investment guidance), and general work-life balance.

Job Performance Assistance

The Foundation will, when appropriate, acquire or help acquire important items that enhance the effectiveness and/or safety of the PD employees’ on-the-job responsibilities.
