My Why
I was deeply honored when I was asked by Chief Calvert to become a Board Member of the Laguna Beach Police and Community Foundation.
Our family ties to Laguna Beach date back to the 50s when my grandparents and parents moved to town, my father starting his career in medicine on Laguna Ave. Growing up here was a magical experience, and I knew this was where my wife and I would want to reside after a career with a national homebuilder.
Upon learning about the passing of K-9 Officer Ranger in Mid-2021, I approached longtime friend Donnie Crevier about the two of us providing a K-9 for the Police Department, which came to be in 2022. The Offield Family provided funding for a second K-9 through the Foundation which made it possible for the Police Department to have K-9 coverage seven days a week. In 2023, I learned that K-9 protective vests were available, and worked with the Foundation to procure vests for the K-9s.
Growing up in Laguna during the 70’s, while Neil Purcell was the Police Chief, made a lasting positive impression on me. After his passing last year, I took some time to think about how to honor his legacy. I presented a concept to the Foundation of funding an annual contribution for the next ten years, creating The Chief Neil Purcell Scholarship Fund, to benefit employees of the Laguna Beach Police Department. I am proud to say that it is in place and ready to go!
The Foundation is growing and making a difference in the Police Department and is there to assist its officers and staff where there is a need. I am very proud to be a part of this great organization.
